Trained Eye Arts center

Bigger Green, LLC now has office space in beautiful downtown Bloomington right along the recently opened B-LINE trail!  With the cooperation of the Trained Eye Arts Center (TEAC) the facility allows for meetings with clients, provides work space for BG projects and is easily accessible by bicycle.

UPCOMING PROJECTS INCLUDE:

  • CREATION OF GARDEN PLANTERS AND ENTRANCE PERGOLAS TO GREET VISITORS TO TEAC SITE
  • BUILD A SHED FOR GARDEN RELATED ITEMS AT THE ROSEWOOD COMMUNITY GARDEN (co-founded by Bigger Green and TEAC)
  • APPLICATION FOR A BLOOMINGTON AREA ARTS COUNCIL GRANT TO CREATE A

More information and pictures of the proposed projects will be on this blog and Bigger Green’s website!

  • Perspective photos below show the proposed pergolas on the 614 N Fairview property with yellow representing the B-Line trail.  We are currently working out funding details to make this project complete!

  • This perspective shows the proposed garden entrance area from North Fairview street:

This is my bedroom “vertical” garden.  It is really just a few varieties: Spider Plants, basil on the window sill, and “Mezoo” on top.  The plants are currently watered with a hand sprayer.  In the future I may employ a drip irrigation system similar to the one currently attached to my living room garden of variegated and reverse variegated Spider Plants, Chlorophytum comosum. They are a great beginner plant and over the years I have planted enough of them to become almost unruly.  I was drawn to them because of their supreme ability to filter formaldehyde and other toxins out of the air.  NASA has done research on this for station ventilation systems.  I would recommend this variety to any planter garden enthusiast!

I also decided to start some wheat grass for juicing.  We will see…

I finally uploaded a photo of my seed sprouting room.  It is mostly a mix-up of different types of lighting fixtures, tray types, and planting mediums.  I wanted to get a feel for different types of soil-less planting mediums:
Sphagnum peat Jiffy pellets
Oasis brand Horticubes
My soil mix in cheap flats
My three types of lights shown are:
90 watt “UFO” style LED lamp
standard 2ft with Verilux full-spectrum bulb
Sunleaves 4ft T-5 fluorescent (BRIGHT!!!)

Planting season has arrived

In Bloomington, IN yesterday the temperature was 75 with sunny skies.  This morning I awoke to gentle snow.  Go figure!

I have already planted nearly 100 peppers and heirloom tomatoes of various varieties.  I will continue to expand my seed starting operation as the season continues.  The plants will be sold at the Bloomington Farmer’s Market in little over a month.

Started some lettuce the other day and wheat grass today:  fingers crossed…

Anyone with an interrest in FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

The link below is the presentation of Howard Owen, the Bloomington Photography Club’s guest speaker for March 2011.  His engaging lecture provided very useful insight into methods of flash photography that can be incorporated into any artists tool arsenal.  For those of you interested in the BPP as it is locally known, please visit their website which I have provided below also:

My heart goes out to JAPAN

If you have not yet heard, the world’s 6th strongest recorded earthquake struck Northern Japan this morning.  Many hundreds are dead (300 in just one town) and many more are missing.  My heart goes out to all affected by this tragic event. Please get involved any way you can.  I am currently connecting with contacts in Tokyo.  The potential for tsunamis is still present as i type!  This is just another example of humanity coming together in a time of need.  Thank you all!

A capture of my tomato, pepper, and broccoli starts.  So far 10 of 12 broccoli plants have sprouted and one Zapotec heirloom tomato plant as well.  I cannot wait to get these little beauties out into the sun
